Dear SFPE New York Metropolitan Chapter,

With the holiday season fast approaching, we are well into our 62nd year as a Chapter and have had a great start to the 2016-2017 session. The board met back in July to plan the upcoming year as well as formed a Chapter Bylaws Committee and FDNY Relations Committee.

The fall lineup is coming to a conclusion and has included presentations on:

  • 1. Remembering 9/11 - 15 years ago by John Durante (Past President)
  • 2. NFPA 4 - Integrated System Testing by Jacqueline Wilmot (NFPA)
  • 3. Energy Storage Systems by Daniel Gorham (NFPA FPRF)

We will start 2017 at the NYC Fire Museum, on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, in conjunction with the Fire Safety Directors Association. The remainder of the spring presentations/field trip are currently being organized and details will follow. The Chapter will again be hosting a PE question writing session in January and I would encourage members to participate in helping shape the future of fire protection engineering industry. In addition, the golf outing will again be held in June with proceeds benefiting the NY/NJ Scholarship Fund.

With great pleasure, I would like to extend congratulations to two of our Chapter Past Presidents: David Jacoby and Russ Fleming. Both were honored this year by SFPE International for their contribution to the fire protection industry. Having personally worked with both David and Russ, I can attest to their devotion to promoting our industry. Please see below for additional information.

Finally, thank you to the members who have already paid their annual dues. As a reminder, dues remained at $50 this year, if paid prior to the November meeting, and $75 if paid thereafter. Please remit dues at your earliest convenience.

I would like to wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season!

Robert F. Accosta Jr.

2016-2017 President SFPE NY Metro Chapter
